The Annual Kirkwood 5K Run/ Walk/ Push will take place in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Greensboro on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. This family friendly race will start and end at the Kirkwood Park (corner of Lafayette Avenue and Brookside Drive) and follow a fun, fast course through the lively Kirkwood Neighborhood. Check-in and registration will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. A Kids Fun Run is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow the 5K, where awards will be given for the fastest male, female, child, stroller pusher, Kirkwood resident and first-time 5K participant.
Participation in the Kirkwood 5K is open to adults and children. The cost for individual registration is $30.00 for adults timed and $25.00 for adults untimed and $15.00 for kids 12 and under timed and $10.00 for kids 12 and under untimed. There is a $5.00 discount for registering before race day. Registration is available at www.kirkwood5k.org through August 28th. August 29th: Guilford County Dept. of Public Health special 7th grade clinics
Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Division would like to remind parents who have a child entering the seventh grade this year that there is a change in the vaccinations required by law for school attendance. According to North Carolina law, children who are entering the 7th grade in the 2015-2016 school year (or if the child is 12 years old, whichever comes first) must have one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV) and a booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
Special 7th grade clinics are scheduled for Saturdays, August 29 and September 19, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at both Greensboro and High Point locations. For an appointment at either location, call (336) 641-3245. Ask about cost when you call. Fees may apply, so bring your child’s insurance card (including Medicaid) and your child’s shot record. The MCV and Tdap vaccinations are also available at other times during the regular business day and at your child’s health care provider’s office.

August 30: Spring Garden Food Truck Festival IV
Join us at the Fourth Annual Spring Garden Food Truck Festival!

September 14th: Liberty Hospice Services
Liberty Hospice Services, Caring with Compassion, is offering a Walking through Grief Workshop. This series offers hope and help while providing information and practical tools to those navigating the grief journey. Group sessions will be held Monday evenings at 5:30pm beginning September 14 and running through November 16. They will be located at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 5120 Burlington Rd, Greensboro, NC 27405 (corner of Hwy 70 and Mount Hope Church Rd). October 17th: KfK Car/Bike Show
Kruizin' for Kidneys Car/Bike Show will be raising awareness of kidney disease and helping "end stage renal disease" (ESRD) victims through organized rides and fundraising events. Our 2015 fundraising event will be raising money to help The Children's Organ Transplant Association. Sept 11th: Ice Cream Social for Baby Zac
Baby Zac is 6months old and spent 103 days in the NICU where surgeons grew his esophagus inside his body while he was in a 2 week induced coma. Zac has been hospitalized many times since being home due to respiratory distress and still has many doctors appointments and procedures at Duke due to being primarily g-tube fed and being considered failure to thrive. He is now faced with the possibility of another surgery to move his heart's aorta off his trachea. Please join friends and supporters at the Dan Valley Community Center on Dan Valley Road in Stoneville on September 11th from 5-9p for Ice Cream, Karaoke, Dancing and a costume character!

This event is in honor of Gage Edwards, an East Surry student who died in a car accident, to help raise money for the scholarship in his name and to bring awareness to the dangers of texting and driving. North Carolina law requires that all domestic pets (cats, dogs and ferrets), whether living inside or outside, age four months or older be vaccinated. Even animals that are confined in outdoor fenced areas should have current rabies vaccinations, because wild animals can get into these areas and attack your pets.

Please join us at Tanglewood Park on Saturday, November 14, 2015 for the Winston-Salem Walk for Wishes as we celebrate 6 years of walking to grant wishes through the Festival of Lights! All the tools you will need to register, join a team, send emails or sponsor a walker or team are right here!
The Tanglewood Walk is a 5K/3.1mile route, with a turn-around point in the middle, for those that do not want to do the whole distance.
